Yes. You read it correctly. Spam-flavored Mac Nuts.

Now that I no longer live in Hawaii, I depend on care packages from the 808 to keep the home-sickness at bay. Usually the box will contain macadamia nuts in some form. But yesterday, a package arrived on my doorstep containing this oddity: Spam-flavored Macadamia Nuts.

Your first thought might be, “How low does your nut-esteem have to be, that you have to try and make them more palatable by adding Spam flavor to it?” And if the product was destined for the stomach of anybody not from Hawaii, you’d be right.

Inexplicably, however, Spam is a beloved delicacy in Hawaii. Even science can’t figure it out. This bovine-sodium quasi-meat seems perfectly engineered to cause nausea and lack of appetite, but such is not the case in the 50th State. Hawaiians have a long history of eating mystery meat, dating back all the way to Captain Cook.

So Spam-flavored Mac Nuts is a very Hawaiian treat. In fact, the only thing more Hawaiian would be McGarrett-flavored crystal meth.
